Editorial: Down With Voting!
So, an interesting exchange happened at the
R.E.M. concert on Saturday night. At one point during the show, Stipe started talking politics - as we all knew he would. HOWEVER, he basically started saying that everyone should make sure they get out and vote (he was encouraging registration too, I think having lost track of the time - as time's up on that).
As he's telling people they should cast their vote no matter which way they voted, there erupted a chorus of booing mixed in with some applause. Were they booing the concept of voting? Was this a "less talk, more rock" boo? Not sure. But I'm assuming it's a
Vote For Change Tour backlash - people just waiting to boo anything as much as Stipe couldn't wait to say it again. Only, I couldn't help but notice most of it came from the "expensive seats".
