This Weekend In Athens

Why do things happen at the same time?

Royals (Rockin' the hell outta happy hour.)
FRI: Fresh off their second massive robbery in less than a year, Camper Van Beethoven comes back to Athens for the first time since their great performance at AthFest. They're headlining the 40 Watt. Also, Flagpole chatted them up recently. I don't have to tell you they're great.

However, there's another great show at Nuci's Space that night. Astra, the Fairburn Royals, and Commander Chameleon will play there, starting at 10 PM. I don't know anything about the latter, but Flagpole says Astra's great (a "Band to Watch in 2005"), and The Fairburn Royals just got rave reviews in Southeast Performer and Stomp and Stammer this month. For more info, check out this page.

Finally, the always charming Venice Is Sinking is playing at The Caledonia as well. Too bad we have to choose between these three shows.

WVTS (Bigfoot not included.)
SAT: We Versus The Shark, whose new album Ruin Everything! was just released nationally, will play Tasty World as part of the Fluke Comics Festival. They start early (10-ish), so show up then to catch 'em. (Show up a might bit earlier and you can catch the trapeze folks who're also awesome.)

Also, Craig Lieske (Garbage Island) and Heather McIntosh (Circulatory System, Japancakes, Elf Power, etc.) will be playing an improv set at Flicker. Don't know the time, but you know the shows there are always early.

Later that night, you can shake ass to DJ Twin Powers and The Krush Girl(s) at the Watt.
