This Weekend In Athens
FRI: Well, undoubtedly the place you'll wanna be is at the
40 Watt to see an all-too-rare solo appearance by the
Drive-By Truckers' Mike Cooley. Not only is he
a great songwriter, but with Don Chambers opening it's a fantastic bill. This is one of those "don't miss" shows. Seriously.
Here's a related link from a coupla' days ago too.
But before that, if you're in the mood for some BBQ and country, apparently
Redneck GReece is appearing once again at
Jot 'Em Down. Show starts at 6PM. Don't know where everyone's gonna fit, but I guess it'd work out. As a sidenote, due to conversation on TDJ after his last show there, I tried the BBQ. It's great. But don't forget it's cash only.
SAT: Todd McBride and the Cooler Heads bring some great rock music to the
Caledonia. They're one of those bands we brag on a lot, so I won't drag it out again. But see 'em cause they're great.
If you get done with that in time, it might also be worth the money to see
a certain Flagpole editor dance his drunk ass off next door at the
40 Watt as Le Tigre plays their make-up show. If you do, please take pictures for us! (Just kidding, CH.) (But seriously folks, if that happens, do.)
Also,
Bloodkin plays an acoustic show at the Eastwood Pub, a new bar/venue on the East Side which apparently will be booking more of these type shows. Don't know the start time, but if you do post it in the comments.
