Editorial: Rock N' Roll Is back

I was in
Wuxtry the other day and couldn't help but overhear the following conversation between two folks:
Guy (seeing girl browse rap section): Oh, you like rap?
Girl: Yeah.
Guy: Really? I thought you just liked Rock n' Roll.I thought it was really awesome that someone just casually dropped the entire phrase "rock n' roll". You don't hear that very often anymore. It conjured up this entire sorta "
Booker T & The MG's" feeling. Or maybe
The Band. Or that scene in
Apocalypse Now where a
young Larry Fishburne dances around the boat to the Rolling Stones on the radio.
I'd like to propose that we go back to using the complete phrase instead of just "rock". I mean, rock is fine as a verb - especially when moderated by "out" or "on". But rock n' roll is a real genre. And more than that, kinda connotes a certain time period. I say, when you wanna tell someone what kinda music you like, and you mean anything remotely rock n' roll, say it. Mean it. Live it.
