This Weekend In Athens
Memorial Day is awesome cause you can drink on Sunday night, sleep in, then go BBQ and drink more to get rid of the other three nights of drinking...
FRI: Venice Is Sinking and
Astra play the
40 Watt. Should compl
ement each other well. Soft, but not like that crybaby kinda soft, just kinda relaxing and enjoyable. Definitely worth seeing.
If you're in the mood for something louder, the Rock Lotto has returned to the
Caledonia with a new concept. Local bands will perform entire sets of other local bands' songs. Tonight features
Coulier as
Cinemechanica,
Cinemechanica as
Maserati,
A.Armada (who get my vote for "most informative local website") as
Now It's Overhead, and Salmon Panties (f/Gordon Lamb) as The Agenda. Should be interesting and possibly great. Definitely entertaining.
And the Friday night tradition carries on over at
Jot 'Em Down BBQ with
Redneck GReece performing his twisted country tunes. Hell, I might even go this week. Been craving some good BBQ. Cash only. 6PM.
SAT: Acetate makes a rare appearance to headline the
Caledonia. And in what might become a critical lapse of judgment, they let the lovable scamps in
Brown Frown open for them.
If you haven't heard about Acetate, there's
this in the Flagpole. If you haven't heard Brown Frown live, you really should. It's like the more riff-heavy Jesus Lizard stuff mixed with some kind of crazy blues guitar, or you know... early Nirvana. This is an awesome bill. If you're one of those sissies who wants to "retain your hearing past the age of 40", you might wanna bring earplugs (for audiophiles, they've got nice ones for fairly cheap at
Nuci's).
Thing is, right next door at the
40 Watt,
Iron Hero - who impressed me at this year's Delirium - will be performing their CD release party. So, maybe I'm buying two tickets. Who knows?
SUN: Drink, Sleep, Hang out, Evs. I'm going kayaking for the first time, and CS is hitting the beach. Dunno what the rest of the TDJer's are doing.
MON: Happy Memorial Day! Have a cookout. Seriously, do.
