This Weekend In Athens (& Beyond)
On my mark... Release the CD's!
FRI: Good news for those of you (and there were quite a few of you) that missed the
Ceiling Fan show last weekend - you get another chance. They're rocking the hell out of the
Caledonia tonight, and I'm for damn sure gonna be there. You should be too. It's definitely within your last 4 chances to do so, and if you know how great they are (or even if you don't), that's a precious few shows left.
Of course, there's also
Redneck at
Jot 'Em Down and the return of
Athens 441 to the
Morton. More on the latter
here.
SAT: The Tom Collins finally release their album,
Daylight Tonight, at the
Caledonia. It's some straight-up rock n' roll (think Zepplin style) that doesn't let up. They're also joined by
Producto and
Pushbutton, so that's a pretty great lineup. More
here.
(P.S.- I wish Frank had a fanclub; I'd join.)For a slower pace, there's
Hope For Agoldensummer headlining the
40 Watt. I probably shouldn't have to say much about them at this point... soft, sultry, Southern, etc. But really good is the most important part. Now if they'd only get their asses in gear and make album #2. Seriously, y'all.
There's also
Count at
Farm 255 and the
Annie & Her Guns CD release show at
Lil' Kings. More on the latter
here and
here.
Also, Happy Homecoming!
Go Dawgs!
Also, as an alternative to everything above, there's the Paste Music Festival in Decatur. Lotsa Athenians Reprezentin'. And if you don't wanna pay, Chris sent this bit of info..."[The festival] needs volunteers this weekend to help with box office, directions, artist catering, etc. Volunteers receive a free pass to the festival the day that they work and a t-shirt! There are two shifts each day on Sat. and Sun. Oct. 22-23: 12-5 (10:30am training, breakfast provided) and 5-10 (4pm training, snacks provided). If you're interested in volunteering, contact Kate Kiefer (kate@pastemagazine.com / 404.207.1206) as soon as possible."
So, there ya' have it. Have fun this weekend, y'all.
