Carnival Time

Folks mighta' missed the news story, but over the weekend Carnival season kicked into (relatively) full force with some of the larger Mardi Gras parades taking place. Of course, crowds were sparser (word?) than usual, but all the same the good times were rolling down in New Orleans once again.

So, for novices and old-timers alike who might be looking for some great Mardi Gras music, there's a coupla' options. First, if you've got money to blow you can grab a copy of the old' standby Mardi Gras In New Orleans - if you replace the Earl King track with Dr. John's "Mardi Gras Day", you'll have the mixtape that's been circulating around New Orleans natives for over three decades, simple as that.

For those without money, once again I'd recommend dropping by Home Of The Groove. This NOLA-centered mp3 blog will be putting up song after song of classic Mardi Gras music for the next week and a half or so - all the way till Fat Tuesday (Feb. 28th). Right now, they've got Al Johnson's "Carnival Time" (also on the aforementioned CD). Good start to your own, free Mardi Gras mix. Enjoy, but get 'em while they're hot - songs only stay up for 3-4 days each.

And for those who don't give a crap, thanks for indulging me.
