This Weekend In Athens
FRI: Cinemechanica and
Iron Hero host a CD release party for each of their albums together at the
40 Watt tonight. Can't speak for the Cinemechanica album (cause I haven't heard it), but the Iron Hero one is great.
We Versus The Shark, who always sound amazing at the Watt and will hopefully also play new stuff, also play. More info
here and
here and
here.
Also,
Col. Knowledge & The Lickety Splits and
Murder Beach play the "3rd Annual Pop Lovers" something or other at the
Caledonia. Catchy pop songs about love, I think is the point. Anyway, that's sure to be good as well.
SAT: Folklore (I didn't forge this time!) and local big band
Dark Meat perform at the
Caledonia. There's gonna be a lotta catchy songs there this weekend, it looks like.
Also,
The Bearfoot Hookers host another installment of their "Solid Gold Saturday Night" series at
Tasty World. This week's event features
Workhorses of the Entertainment/Recreational Industry amongst others. More
here.
Finally, the trio of
Porter-Batiste-Stolz is playing at the
Georgia Theatre. At least two of those are really fantastic New Orleans musicians (played with the Meters). But probably only hippies and a few NOLA folks care about that.
SUN: Arlo Guthrie, who is way too old to have that hair, is playing Hodgson Hall at UGA. Show starts at 7:30 PM (don't know what time "Alice's Restaurant" starts). More
here.
