Big ups to semi-spontaneous fests!...

FRI: So many bands we like at the Georgia Theatre tonight, it might as well be called "TDJ Fest" (why isn't it?!?). Anyway, you can catch Goat, Nutria, Adam Musick, and Kimberly Morgan - all under one roof. It's even hosted by our friend Pete McBrayer. If you've not caught most or all of these acts before, it's a very good opportunity to see 'em all for cheap. Lots more going on there as well. More here.

If that's not your speed, there's something more experimental with Garbage Island over at the Caledonia (get your fix now folks, seriously), and there's the new Friday night Hip-Hop show over at Tasty World hosted by Ishues.


SAT: Big times to be had outside the clubs... Firstly, there's the Next To Last Fest happening on a private property up by the mall area for most of the afternoon/night. Acts include Summer Hymns, Phosphorescent, The Low Lows, and more. At night, if you're not going to be there, The Secret Squirrel is playing host to former GBV member Doug Gillard, believe it or not. It's gonna cost ya' more than your average house party I'm sure, but The Late BP Helium and M-Coast open, so you'll get a good night of music out of it, I'm sure. In fact, I'll guarantee it because Mr. Helium himself wrote us with (amongst other things), the following:

the b.p. band will feature b.p. (of course), aaron wegelin, neil golden and.. frank mcdonnell(!).

There's also some great stuff in the clubs like the ever-playing Music Hates You at the Caledonia with Polemic or Nic Goodson & Craig Lieske at Flicker. So, take your pick.
