Tonight In Athens

A cool instrumental show tonight at Flicker. First, Kyle Dawkins performs songs from his newest release Walls Become The World, which is a cool mix of folk guitar and with electronic elements. Then, Jay Gonzalez (of Nutria and formerly of The Possibilities) performs as part of his instrumental project The Inflatable Orchestra - who I haven't heard but Jay says:
it'll just be me playing twangy electric and open tuning acoustic guitars to pre-recorded tracks of mellotron orchestras mixed with rock bass and drums and the odd steel drum here and there....the one thing i've noticed about instrumental music these days is that it goes on too long for my taste and it's mostly sounds and texture...i'm into the rock and pop and movie theme instrumentals of the 50's -70's where it's like a pop song w/o vox... i may also have some video stuff going on since it IS at the flicker and all...
All stars around 8:30. Also, for something louder and with vocals, Bloodkin's just down the street at the 40 Watt.
