This Weekend In Athens
It's football season... where the H is everybody?
FRI: Casper & The Cookies return to play at the
40 Watt - where I last saw them and they sounded great. They're one of those bands where a great sound system and the right engineer can make all the difference (some lo-fi bands love muddy sounds - C&TC isn't best like that in my opinion). Anyway, great band, great venue.
Not a whole lot else happening in the clubs, but
The Low Lows and others will be rocking things out at
the Secret Squirrel starting around 9PM.
SAT (GO DAWGS!!!): The Dexateens, an Alabama band of with some ties to Athens given that they recorded their last album at Chase Park under the watchful eyes of David Barbe and Patterson Hood, perform at the
40 Watt. I've never seen or heard 'em, but thought I'd mention it.
The show of the night has to be the return of
Powerload (the kickass Bon Scott era AC/DC cover band) to the
Caledonia. Need I say more?
Of course, if you're not feeling up to loud, then you couldn't go wrong seeing
Lake City's
Matt "Pistol" Stoessel perform acoustic songs at Farm 255. He's been in every other band, why not see him without a net, right? Or, there' some weird poetry music thing going on at
Flicker involving
William Tonks (who we like) and others. The explanation in Flagpole was a little confusing.
