This Weekend In Athens
These bands just relax casually...
FRI: Holy crap what a cool party the
'donia's throwing tonight. Or at least some folks there are throwin' it. It's the
"Footbizzle All-Stars Show". You can see the rarely-appearing rock acts
Je Suis France (Lite) and
Bugs Eat Books, either of which would be enough to drag my old ass outta my house to a show. But then you throw in the fantasy football-based rap and expert flow of
Excalibrah +
Lil' Flip Scoldjah and you've got a winning ticket. HammJammin in the extreme. Tru.
(I also have it on good authority that the long-rumored France LP is in the prep stages. Hope that's true.)Of course, if you're not into all that, there's plenty still going on.
WUOG's throwing their yearly birfday party which is also a Halloween party over at
Little Kings. This year,
Pegasuses-XL and
Cars Can Be Blue are performing. Great lineup as well, obviously.
Or for something heavier, there's
Hank III at the
40 Watt. More on that
here. And for something more twangy, there's
Redneck GReece over at the sketchily-located (read: BEHIND the Happy Spa)
Eastwood Pub.
SAT: Casper & The Cookies take the stage at the
Caledonia to rock their new stuff. There's a whole
write-up about it in Flagpole this week, but I would add that if you haven't seen 'em in a while, you owe it to yourself to check 'em out again. The new band is on fire.
For more rock,
Lake City and
Mother Jackson are at the
40 Watt, and starting around 11PM,
DJ Other Voices, Other Rooms will be spinning at
Little Kings. F'pole says, "At tonight's dance party, expect tracks from the Isley Bros., Ol' Dirty Bastard, The Glands, Midnight Star, some house, and more." I'm sure he can tell us more.
SUN: Madeline and
Geoff Reacher at
the Secret Squirrel. Outta town, back into town, back outta town. You know how it goes.
