This Weekend In Athens
Hope you got your costumes ready...
FRI: Chunklet rules this weekend, as they've set up not one but two killer shows back to back at the
40 Watt. Tonight's features two of
The Comedians of Comedy:
Zach Galifianakis and
Patton Oswalt - without a doubt two of the best comedians out there. Even if you've seen one of Patton's shows here before, I can almost guarantee it'll be a whole set of fresh material. Plus, a set by
Elf Power, who is of course also awesome. How great a night is that? More
here.
And in addition - I need to keep typing to make this space longer so that it can look good on your browser. I'm gonna feel like a jerk if I left anything great off the list for tonight, but in the meantime, y'all can just skip reading this and move on to the Saturday post. Like anyone reads all these things anyway. Oh, there's some dance party at Little Kings, but I don't know what that's about. Punk rock at the 'donia too. That Chunklet poster is a live link so you can read it more closely. Okay, moving on...
SAT: The
Chunklet party continues, this time with legendary sludge-rockers (how's that for your Spin description?)
The Melvins headlining. I can't remember when the last time they've come through Athens was, but it's been a while. Plus, this time
David Yow's totally going to be with them. Opening will be
Harvey Milk - who pretty much sound a lot like the Melvins and who are completely and totally awesome to see live. I can't describe it, but even if you're not a fan of hardcore music, it's something worth seeing. Also opening is
Big Business who I've never heard of, but they're probably very loud.
If that sorta thing isn't your bag, you can go check out the sorta-sonic, sorta-dancey, always-on music of
Iron Hero over at
Tasty World (they haven't played in a while, so I hope that means they're recording),
Push! (featuring several former members of Astra) over at the
Go Bar, or new MC
BadKat's CD release show over at the
Caledonia. More on the latter
here.
