Tonight In Athens
Patterson Hood,
William Tonks,
Don Chambers, and a buncha other folks are at the
40 Watt tonight as part of a fundraiser for Mayor Heidi Davison for next week's run-off election. Not exactly sure what any money raised one week before a local election can do and also not exactly sure why she'd need the money (wasn't she WAY in the lead?), but it's a good excuse for a show anyway.
The
Tasty World's giving the Watt a run for its money in great line-ups though, as it hosts two shows with a pretty fun arrangement of acts. Downstairs, you can catch local legend the
8-Track Gorilla opening for (amongst others) awesome relative-newcomers
Sleepy Horses (you have to be here like years before you're not a relative newcomer) - who just released their new album
Somewhere Out West, Lonesome For You during a chaotic CD release show in the same venue. Tonight's show should be more stable. More
here.
Meanwhile, upstairs
the Renegadez continue their "
Versus" tradition by challenging other local rappers and bands to battles. The performer with a better crowd reaction than the Renegadez themselves wins the door money. Our friends in
Thunderchief happen to be one of this week's challenging bands. See that picture? They're awesome (okay, maybe just drunk... but pretty entertaining).
Very happy to see the mix-up in sounds all around tonight.
