This Weekend In Athens

FRI: The Team Clermont Summer Festival continues tonight in two locations. First, there's a happy hour show at the Caledonia featuring Alina Simone, Summer Hymns, and The Folk Yous. Then, starting at 10 PM at the 40 Watt, you can see Castanets and Phosphorescent (playing a set together), Cinemechanica, Arizona, and A Northern Chorus. If you're there, say hey to Lucas. Much more of course can be found here.

Before all that, you can catch Fabulous Bird on WUGA's (91.7) "It's Friday" radio show starting at 4PM. There's also a coupla' late night dance options - either Bitch Switch at Little Kings, or the Krush Girls at Detour. Up to you, really.

SAT: You guessed it - more Team Clermont. The activities actually span the day. Starting at the ugly hour of 11 AM (what are we - animals?!?), you can go to East Athens Community Park to see Calvin Johnson do a solo performance during a kickball game. I don't really know anything about Calvin Johnson - but are we sure about this, y'all? Seriously? Read more about it here.

Anyway, when you're done with that weird stuff, the Go Bar's hosting a free afternoon show with Benjy Ferree and Abra Moore who I also know nothing about. So, yeah, it could be weird too. Not sure, but it doesn't involve 11 AM or kickball.

Finally, the night brings the annual Team Clermont Prom at the 40 Watt (not to be confused with whatever MMJ pulled earlier this year). Tonight's prom features Bobby Conn and Twin Powers and you can read much more about all these goings on here. Seriously, make Lucas happy. Go.

SUN: Tired yet? Good cause all day long is the Wynburn Blvd Fest featuring a buncha folks you can read more about here. One act is Dark Meat who is performing The Stooges' Fun House in much smaller numbers. Here's the schedule:

Stereo Campbell (12 p.m.),
Matt "Pistol" Stoessel (12:45 p.m.),
Diet Echo (1:25 p.m.),
Honey (2:15 p.m.),
Mikey Dwyer & the Starter Kits (3 p.m.),
The Ginger Envelope (3:50 p.m.),
Ryan Hetrick (4:50 p.m.),
Sleepy Horses (5:20 p.m.),
Still, Small Voice & the Joyful Noise (6:10 p.m.),
Mother Jackson (7 p.m.),
Dead Confederate (7:50 p.m.)
Deaf Judges (8:40 p.m.),
Dark Meat (9:15 p.m.)

Bring some money with you to donate to Nuci's for this fest. Well worth it.

Then, that night, there's an afterparty for the Classic City Rollergirls Derby over at Kingpins. Nutria and Heavy Petty are possible performers, but F'pole's not sayin' for sure. Anyone got the scoop?
