This Weekend In Athens
School's already killing me. No time links...
FRI: Jucifer returns once again to their technical "home" in Athens to play at the
Georgia Theatre. Really, if you haven't seen 'em, you need to. It's like the circus coming to town. The Rock circus. And
We Versus The Shark and
Summerbirds In The Cellar are opening. An awesome night for rock.
For something much quieter, you can see
Parker "P.L." Noon,
Matt "Pistol" Stoessel and
Patrick "Ginger Envelope" Carey at
Flicker all performing acoustic sets.
If you wanna dance,
DJ's Gretchen & Kurt Wood will be spinning at the
Go Bar.
But before all that, you can stop by the
Caledonia at Happy Hour (around 6 PM) to see
Jesse Flavin (if he's still alive) and
Venice Is Sinking. It's only $3, which is like half-price around here.
SAT: Patterson Hood plays his first solo show in while at the
Melting Point. He's likely gonna play stuff from his third solo album. He's got a habit of getting like 2-3 albums ahead of himself. The talented, gigantic
Bo Bedingfield opens.
In what kinda seems an odd pairing
Push! and
Peter Alvanos are listed as playing at the Caledonia - though I can't verify that Alvanos is gonna be there through the club's site. He probably is though. That guy's everywhere.
Also,
the Folk Yous bring the soft sounds of 80's hard rock to the
Go Bar. Or, if you just wanna dance, you can either catch
Bitch Switch at
Little Kings and/or
DJ Mahogany at
Flicker.
UPDATE: Alvanos will actually be playing at the Go Bar along with the Folk Yous. That show starts around 8PM.
SUN: In what may likely be the second-most-awesome show that
Kingpins will have ever hosted (third maybe if you count the awesome Jay Gonzalez shows!)
Centro-Matic and
Southern Bitch will both perform this Sunday. I don't know where everyone's gonna stand, or if anyone will be able to hear anything afterwards, but oh what a lineup. That is how you bring it.
And yes, I used that picture so that we all remember what it's like to be cold.
