This Weekend In Athens

I'm posting this now since I'll be in late tomorrow. Don't want to make you kids wait!

Lots of shenanigans this weekend...rather than link to the bands, I linked to the venues so you can go to their websites for more details.

Friday:
There's a big hip hop show over at the Tasty World with Ishues, and a slew of others. It should be noted that all proceeds from the event go to the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support.

Around 9 p.m. or so, you can catch Bob Hay & the Jolly Beggars and The Squallz over at the Go Bar. Later at11 p.m., following the band, you can catch DJ Baby Pandas. There's the excellent music of Kenosha Kid over at the Mercury Lounge and that's at 8 p.m. so you could still hit that and another show if you dare.

There's another benefit over at Nuci's Space tonight. This one is for the disability group Multiple Choice. The bill features the wonderful ladies Kimberly Morgan and Betsy Franck and her Bare Knuckle Band, and a band called Tritonic, whom I'm not familiar with. More info on the event here.

Good times to be had over at the 40 Watt tonight for Orange Twin night, and I must add, for just a mere TWO DOLLARS. This bill includes Dark Meat (however, tonight's show is Soft Meat, more of an acoustic-based set), The Instruments, and Elf Power. Jeff Fallis will also be reading some poetry, I take it, and there is a movie trailor (done by E6 folks) being shown too. And speaking of E6, you can also catch a solo set by Peter Erchick over at Flicker around 8:30 p.m.

There's also a band whose description sounds intriguing over at the Caledonia tonight. They are calling it the Caledonia Social Club and it's a band with members from A. Armada, Masarati, Je Suis France, Paper Lions, and Macha. Note that this starts at 8 p.m.

Lots of early shows tonight and no doubt, lots of music to catch!

On a non-music related note, there's something called a Full Moon Canoe Ride/Hike at Sandy Creek Park tonight that is cheap and perhaps fun. Read more here.

Saturday:
The Caledonia is hosting an emcee battle. Registration at 9 p.m., music at 10 p.m. and the battle goes down at 11 p.m.

Fresh off of tour with Vic Chesnutt and Liz Durrett, Ham1 will be giving an in-store performance over at Schoolkids Records at 5 p.m.

There's also Push at the Go Bar and the 40 Watt is hosting Nebula, Bonk and Zoroaster.

Rock on, y'all.
