This Holiday In Athens
Hey y'all, I'm taking some much-needed R&R for the next few weeks. I know a coupla' other TDJ'ers will be around working some, so I doubt the site will be completely inactive till then, but wanted to do a comprehensive listing before I left. Looking forward to 2008, f'reals...WED: Jay Gonzalez plays what I'm assuming is his last gig at
Kingpin's this year. Playing the hits for you. Requests taken. Hey, if I'm still around, I'll likely end up there.
THURS: Sleepy Horses perform at the
Caledonia. Meanwhile,
Kenosha Kid is performing at the
Melting Point with
John Neff sitting in.
FRI: Local rock stalwarts
Honey and
Lona perform at the
40 Watt.
Hope For Agoldensummer celebrate their new album with a show at
Flicker.
Madeline's also on the bill. In addition, a couple of infrequently-performing Jolly Beggars' side projects,
A. Che Why and
The Noogeez, perform at
Go Bar.
Also, in an interesting line-up,
Love Tractor,
John Keane, and a whole bunch of others play at the
Georgia Theatre. Even former UGA kicker Billy Bennett (who engineered the first Whigs album, I believe).
SAT: For those still hanging around,
Timber will perform at
Tasty World and
Bitch Switch will host a holiday party at
Little Kings.
TUES (MERRY CHRISTMAS!)WED (12/26): Jay Gonzalez is listed as playing Kingpin's again, but I'm betting it's a misprint... after all, it is the day after Christmas. Jay?
SAT (12/29): Garbage Island, Mother Jackson, Diet Rockstar, and Elite The Showstoppa (is there such thing as experimental rap?) all perform at the
40 Watt.
SUN (12/30): Former Athenians
The Diamond Center perform at
Transmet.
MON (12/31): As usual, the
40 Watt hosts its New Year's Eve party with the
Krush Girls DJ'ing. There's also some shake-ass going on at
Mercury Lounge with
DJ Mahogany and
DJ Baby Pandas.
Just wanna listen? Yeah, me too (I'm old, after all). Well, the completely awesome cover band
Heavy Petty'll be at the
Caledonia that night as well. Good getting drunk music. With them will be the
Diamond Center in their second return-to-Athens performance.
Finally, haven't heard what's going on at the
Squirrel that night, so watch
Mercer's page for more info, I'm sure.
TUES (HAPPY NEW YEAR!): Go Dawgs!
FRI (1/4): Pride Parade returns to the
Caledonia to perform material from their newly-finished forthcoming LP. Trust me, it kicks ass.
The Dumps and several other loud acts are on the bill. Not sure the order they're all playing in.
There's also
Bloodkin at the
40 Watt,
Gemini Cricket at
Flicker, and
Betsy Franck & The Bareknuckle Band at
Tasty World.
SAT (1/5): Hip-hop fans'll appreciate the lineup at the
Caledonia with
Bear, Son 1, and DJ Killacut amongst others.
Let me know what I've left out in the comments. I may ammend/update/repost as this post disappears over the next couple of weeks.
Hope y'all have a great Christmas and New Years and whatnot. See y'all back in 2008. Labels: Tonight In Athens
