This Weekend In Athens
No more decent college football till August...
FRI: The
Drive-By Truckers continue their stand at the
40 Watt tonight. A band named
Glossary from Murfreesboro, TN is opening, but I've never heard 'em. Anyway, you know if you're going cause it's sold out.
So if you don't have tix or it's not your thing, check out the
Caledonia where
Jeremy Wheatley, Magic Missile, The Folk Yous, and
Cut Buffer are performing. Most of y'all are familiar with those people, but the last act is supposedly Magic Missle's Jake Mosely performing yacht rock covers. And where there's Mosely & yacht rock you usually get either Griggs or Gonzalez... possibly both. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile,
We Versus The Shark perform songs from their great new EP over at the
Georgia Theatre. With them is the
Buddy System - a new act featuring Ryan Lewis - and what's listed as
Contraband though I think I saw a flyer showing they were gonna be playing Megaman 2. So, we'll see.
For some ass-shakin' fun,
DJ Mahogany will be at
Little Kings spinning exclusively songs from motion picture soundtracks.
SAT: One more night of the
Truckers at the
Watt. Tonight, the Patterson Hood-produced
Dexateens will be the opening act. Not sure if this night's sold out yet or not, but not that I've heard. Last chance to see 'em before they hit the road for a long while. They don't really believe in down time.
You can also catch
Night Moves at the
Caledonia,
Music Hates You at
Tasty World, and/or
Christopher's Liver at
Flicker.
