This Weekend In Athens
You're nobody till somebody loves you...
FRI: Five-Eight, Hope For Agoldensummer, and
Lake City all perform at the
40 Watt as part of the annual Mental Health Benefit. Certainly a worthwhile cause and given how crazy things've been lately, well-timed.
You can also catch
Pegasuses-XL and relative newcomers
The Buddy System (Ryan Lewis' new band) at the
Go Bar.
For a more relaxed time in an atmosphere that serves food and/or brings the booze directly to you, there's
Bob Hay & The Jolly Beggars at the
Melting Point.
Finally,
DJ Mahogany will be kicking out the jams at
Little Kings.
SAT: You would think in a week filled with new DBT and Whigs albums that one of those would take the cake for exciting things happening in Athens. And while those are both solid releases by bands who have become increasingly exciting to see live and have managed to up their game on those albums, I'm most excited about seeing the full electric debut of
The Arcs at the
Caledonia. Let's just put it this way: Ceiling Fan + Possibilities + Wydelles = Awesome. If you like rock n' roll, you'll like it. I cannot wait. They open the show for
David Barbe & The Quick Hooks who y'all all already know, I hope.
This is not to dissuade folks from seeing
The Whigs and
The Ginger Envelope at the
40 Watt next door. I mean, I'm sure that show'll be awesome (in re-reading that, it sounds like a sarcastic sentence - it's not). Plus, right up the street you can catch
William Tonks at
Flicker - and probably combine that show with either of the other two.
And if you didn't get enough dancin' the night before,
DJ Mahogany'll be back out spinning at
Farm 255 this time.
