This Weekend In Athens
Posting a good friend's picture is indulgent and fun (no, I don't know Rollins)...
FRI: A scattered night tonight around town. Hard to believe on a Friday with students in town and no football. That being said, punk/hardcore/hard rock fans can dig on
Polemic and
Thunderchief amongst others at
Little Kings. Or, in a very varied benefit lineup at
Tasty World (raising money for the local Red Cross), you can catch
Ishues.
SAT: "Hammerin'"
Henry Rollins strolls into town for a spoken word performance at the
40 Watt. I saw him years ago at the Tate Center. It was very entertaining for about the first 2 1/2 hours. Holy crap. Seriously, he has lots of stories and intense enthusiasm for every single one of them. That being said, the man's a good storyteller. I'm just sayin' you better be in for the long haul.
Speaking of the long haul, the
Aux2 Experimental Arts Festival takes place at
Cine, Flicker, and Little Kings. I think Heather McIntosh had a lot to do with starting this festival. Other than that, y'oughta checkout
F'pole's write-up for more info.
There's also
A. Armada and the
Buddy System at the
Caledonia.
SUN: A Taste of Athens at the
Classic Center for the gluttons out there. And if that's not enough, the Classic City Rollergirls are hosting a
pie-eating contest at
Farm 255 at noon.
