This Weekend In Athens
Happy Leap Year...
FRI: This weekend's theme seems to be bands I know playing with a few other bands I don't know. So I'll just name the ones I know... For instance among the lineups tonight are
Sleepy Horses and the
Caledonia and
New Sound Of Numbers and
Everybody Everybody (featuring folks from Cars Can Be Blue and Christopher's Liver - and apparently both big Homestar fans) at
Flicker.
However, there's also
Venice Is Sinking who I applaud for taking the bold stance of playing all by their selves at
Farm 255. Who needs opening acts that confuse, confound, and anger local bloggers? Not them.
SAT: Every once in a while,
Jonathan Richman makes his (yearly?) trip to the
40 Watt and this particular show can be seen their along with
Vic Chesnutt (separately, I think). As Gordon pointed out this week, the show at
Flicker which could be a great double-bill sorta compliment actually starts at the same time - 8 PM - and features
King of Prussia amongst others. Look for the GLamb sweating profusely as he huffs it up and down Washington Street that night.
For those not going to those shows and simply preferring to stay put, other options are
Dead Confederate at the
Caledonia,
Gemini Cricket at
Go Bar, and
Christopher's Liver at
Little Kings.
During the day their are two benefit shows, one featuring
Stereo Campbell (amongst others) at
Tasty World as part of the annual
BreastFest show. There's also
Ice Cream Socialists at UGA's
Legion Field raising awareness of something or saying you should take action about something. I dunno.
