This Weekend In Athens
FRI: Pride Parade finally releases their longtime-in-the-works debut LP,
Descendants, tonight at the
Caledonia. It's 11 tracks of heavy (well, mostly). Those familiar with their lives shows should know what to expect. Most of those songs have been staples in the set for a while now. Anyway, they're with
A. Armada too.
Right next door, at the
40 Watt, you can catch
Don Chambers with
Producto. Both bands have relatively new material out now and Chambers is working on another new album due out this fall on WARM Recordings.
Y'all wanna dance? There's
DJ Mahogany at
Little Kings or
Bitch Switch at
Go Bar.
SAT: There's still a lot going on tonight, but it's all kinda spread out. There's
Still, Small Voice & The Joyful Noise at the
40 Watt or the seemingly odd combo of
Contraband at
Allen's (but I guess burgers and video games are a natural combo),
Pride Parade continuing their CD release weekend with an all ages show at
Nuci's Space, or for pop fans there's Happy Happy Birthday To Me band
Fishboy at the
Caledonia with British Athens transplant
Spring Tigers amongst others on that bill.
During the afternoon, there's something called the
Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa going on near Agora. Not sure all about it, but you can see
Summer Hymns at 4:30 PM and
DJ Kurt Wood's spinning in between sets all afternoon. There's more info
here.
Finally, both Friday and Saturday nights you can see the
Athens Symphony Orchestra's 2008 Pops Concert at the
Classic Center for free starting at 8 PM. Bring your own picnic or buy one there.
SUN: Betsy Franck will be at
Farm 255 continuing their Sunday night shows. There's also a party at the
Squirrel with
Mouser and othere.
