This Weekend in Athens

So it's finally the weekend. Hooray! Most of you will have a short week next week so live it up!

Friday:

Cento-MaticCentro-Matic will be playing a FREE show tonight at the 40 Watt. Talk about awesome! Centro-Matic's side project, South San Gabriel, is opening and another Denton band, The Baptist Generals are also on the bill. Just through the parking lot, The Empties and Trances Arc are playing at the Caledonia.

Also in the way of free, Betsy Franck and Hola Halo will be playing at Farm 255 this evening. Jim Willingham and Jacob Morris (both of Ham1) will be playing solo sets at Flicker. Animal Electric is also on the bill. The Flowers of Evil and Muchos Gracias are at the Go Bar. Christopher's Liver and The Stereofidelics are up the hill at the Tasty World. The Stereofidelics will also be playing live on WUOG today at 4 p.m. Also early, local poet Jeff Fallis is doing a poetry reading at 6:30 p.m. at Flicker. (This is also free.)

Saturday:

Mitch EasterFlicker is hosting an unusual show: Magic Missile with Mitch Easter's band Gravel Truck. Lona is playing at the Go Bar. Cine' is hosting a show with The Deaf Judges, Mikey Dwyer's The Starter Kits, Ye Olde Sub Shop, and The Nice Machine.

Early on in the evening, the Tasty World is hosting a benefit for Multiple Choices. Betsy Franck and the Bare Knuckle Band, Clay Leverett, and others are slated to perform. Birds+Wire are at the Caledonia and Andy from Denver is at the 40 Watt. Over at the Classic Center is The Four Tops & The Marvelettes, and John McCutcheon is at the Melting Point.

Sunday:

Modern SkirtsThe Modern Skirts are at the Melting Point. Farm 255 keeps up the Sunday night shows. Still, Small Voice and the Joyful Noise are playing this week. One Ton Tomato, apparently a band featuring members from The Heap, are at Kingpins.
