This Weekend in Athens

Gotta love three day weekends! Everyone be safe out there while you're celebrating the holiday.

Thursday:
Revelry is sure to ensue at the Caledonia tonight with Clay Leverett and Friends, Betsy Franck and the Bareknuckle Band, Helen, Dodge and We Are The Gold Machine. In an amazing feat of nature, Clay will also be playing a free show at Farm 255. Smegma and Dr. Fred's Karaoke are at the Go Bar, and Little Kings has Stegosaurus, Nero and the Burning Violins and Wild Fiction. Carla LaFever is playing a $2 show at the Roadhouse and Justin Brogdon is at Wild Wing Cafe. The Rye Bar is also having music this evening with bands The Additives, Colorful Quiet, and Phillip Mitchell.

Friday:
There's a 4th of July dance party at the Go Bar with DJ Baby Pandas and DJ Mahogany. Casper and the Cookies and Theodore are at the Caledonia. Gabe Vodicka and Roy Coughlin, along with Keven Gilbert, are at Flicker. Isidro and Sandia are at the Rye Bar and Sons of Sailors (Buffet cover band) are at the Melting Point.

Saturday:
Happy Independence Day! Good thing you got away from those Brits (or did you?)! All you really should be doing on this day is eating bbq, drinking beer, and watching fireworks. As for fireworks, Bishop Park has it's annual 4th of July event starting at 6. Terrapin is also having a 4th of July party at 5:30. (Not sure if the country club is having fireworks this year.)

If you feel like music, there's a the Red White and Brewgrass Festival at the Melting Point all day. Bluegrass on two stages. The 40 Watt has Tommy Valentine presents "The Fourth at Forty - Five Hours of Hip-Hop" featuring a whole lot of folks. Looks like there's also a late night disco and Dr. Fred's Karaoke at the Go Bar. And don't forget about the Athens Farmers Market at Bishop Park in the a.m.

Sunday:
There's the weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch at Square One. Lately it's been the Carlton Owens Trio so I'm going to assume that's who is playing this Sunday. Have a good weekend TDJers.
