RIP Jon Guthrie

As you have probably heard, local musician Jon Guthrie was found dead yesterday, after having been missing since early Sunday morning. Jon was the victim of a single vehicle car accident on Beaverdam Rd.

It had been years since I talked to Jon, so there is little I can say that would be a worthy remembrance. I do know that he was a incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist, a passionate musician with the ability (and desire) to play with a diverse range of artists, from Vigilantes of Love to Guff to his father's own Michael Guthrie Band.

Jon had been a familiar face to local music fans for over a decade, which is saying a lot considering that he was only 26 when he passed. I always considered him a good person, and I know that he meant far more than that to the many Athenians who knew him better than I.

Beyond that, I encourage those who can speak more distinctly about Jon to leave a comment remembering him. I leave you with a video of Jon performing with Vigilantes of Love at Eddie's Attic, in May of this year:
