Jerry Fuchs, a most excellent drummer and friend to many in Athens, passed away early Sunday morning in Brooklyn. It is with our deepest regrets that we write this today. Jerry was an amazing drummer that many of us have raved about on this site over the years. One of his most recent courtships was with the Athens band Maserati, with whom he played for the past several years. If you ever saw them live, you know just how mesmorizing his playing could be. Always featured front and center, his drumming was a beautiful and moving art in motion.
The band has a brief statement on their website, but Chunklet has a much more in-depth piece on Jerry's history with Athens and the various bands he's played with throughout the years, as well as the New York Times.

I'll end this post with a video of Maserati performing Inventions live, as this was always one of my favorite songs to see the band play and specifically hear Jerry drum on. There's a long slow buildup of musical tension in this song, and it all explodes when Jerry joins in. This often happened when he played, and it almost always lent a certain electricity to the room that everyone could feel as we all often looked around at each other in disbelief that he could be that good. Everyone I took to see them over the years was always impressed, and always walked away asking who the drummer was. This video does a great job of catching that magic (there's even a camera over his kit at some points).
TDJ sends lots of love to the family and friends of Jerry as well as his close band members that he's spent so much time with throughout the years.
