Another List / Local Music News
There's a list for everything.
This is one for the 100 greatest, gayest albums of all time.
There's a good review of
Dark Developments, the new Vic Chesnutt/Elf Power album,
here.
Though I'm a few weeks late on this news, the title for the forthcoming Bloodkin album, hopefully to be released before the end of the year, is revealed on the wonderful
Aquarium Drunkard blog. (Justin who runs that site used to live in Athens and his label,
Autumn Tone Records, houses Daniel Hutchens' first two solo albums.) That particular post contains their cover of Breakfast in Bed from the
All Dolled Up album, for any Eddie Hinton fans out there. (He has Dusty Springfield as the original artist, but she just helped make it famous...the song was written in Muscle Shoals by Eddie Hinton). Bloodkin is also releasing a box set sometime soon. You can read an excerpt from the liner notes, which describe a nice slice of Athens life, on their
myspace page.

Random Tidbits (to entertain Sloan)
- Forbes has a list of their top rock and roll venues. Yes, Forbes. Anyway, the two Georgia venues mentioned are the EARL and Eddie's Attic.
- Things Younger Than McCain provides a good laugh.
- If you remember our discussion on here the other day about Guitar Hero songs, this article may interest you. It seems the Smashing Pumpkins are releasing their next single via the game.
- More on the show being filmed in Athens for BET.
- If you haven't heard, a new browser is about to be released from Google.

Top Albums?

I really wanted to hate the
Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums of All Time ever since I refused to read it back when it was published 30-odd years ago during the VH1-inspired listing craze. Come to find out, it's actually a fairly solid list. (Much better, in fact, than the
albums that actually sold the most.) A little low on country and missing a few rap records, but all in all, there aren't too many to argue with, especially in the top 200.
