This Weekend In Athens

Change dem clocks...

FRI: Kinda quiet night around town, but there is the 40 Watt show featuring I Am The World Trade Center and band-to-watch The Whigs.

SAT: Finally back from months of recording, Nutria plays Flicker as a show billed as "Nutria & Friends". So many friends you wonder if there's gonna be tickets for sale. There won't be after everyone finds out about possible special guest Michael McDonald. Show's at 8:30-ish.

The big show of the night is Elf Power & The Minus 5 at the Georgia Theatre. Elf Power's playing new tunes, undoubtedly. And the Minus 5's in support of their new album. Peter Buck'll be there. Who knows what'll happen. More here.

Of course there's also the math-ish, rock-ish sounds of Heros Severum at Tasty World, the long-absent rap of former (and sometimes present?) Athenian Ishues at the 40 Watt, and the louder than hell sounds of frequent players Music Hates You at the Caledonia, going for most number of gigs in a semester.

If anyone's bored that afternoon, there's gonna be a big carnival type thing out on Legion Field. Games and prizes and cotton candy and whatnot. All to benefit the Athens deaf community.

SUN: Barbara Cue, who have long been absent to due Widespread Panic tours and whatever else is happening with them returns to the stage at the Melting Point. More here.

Do It Again

Local singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt will appear on a Pet Sounds tribute album, along with the aforementioned Centro-Matic and an assortment of other artists. And who here is going to be the first to order this thing? Yikes.

Athens Music

Here's the Centro-Matic show from the Tasty World on March 28. If you were there, you already know that this show is worth the download. If you weren't there, trust us, it's worth it! Their new album Fort Recovery is out now (they are selling vinyl copies at the shows, too). Thanks to Sloan Simpson for being "The Man" and taping yet another show.

You Don't Like Cancer, Do You?

The drawing to the left was created by Annamieka Hopps, a 21 year-old student at the University of Oregon. Last year, she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma after waking up with a mysterious swollen neck. She kept a graphic diary throughout her ordeal that details the diagnosis, chemo, radiation, recovery, etc. Click here to view her drawings, you'll like 'em.

The reason I'm posting this is because she's now my "honored teammate" for Team in Training. Team in Training is an organization that raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The money is then used for research, patient aid, education, and community service.

What's an honored teammate you say? Well, I committed to raising $4000 and riding my bike 100 miles around Lake Tahoe. She committed to cheering me on, showing up at training events, helping with fundraising, etc.

So... what's this got to do with you? Well, we need money! I know you people are all poor... so I'm not asking for $500 here (though, that'd be nice). If you could spare $5, $25, $50... whatever. We'd love you for it.

p.s. Make sure you post in the comments how much you liked Mieka's drawings. She's hoping to finish 'em up and publish 'em someday.

p.s.s. If enough of y'all donate, I'll post a photo of myself in some special shorts for you.

Get Yer Comedy On

As was pointed out in this week's Threats & Promises, you can download a 30 minute comedy set by Pete McBrayer absolutely free at his new website. And it's worth it.

Tonight In Athens

An interesting twist on an old band tonight at Flicker as "Kenosha Kid Sells Out". It's gonna be a whole set of Athens covers. R.E.M., The Possibilities, HFAGS, etc. I've been wanting a band to do this for a long time now. Or at least have move bands include Athens classics in their sets. Show at 8:30, possibly a second set later. More here.

Also, just before that (around 8), Sleepy Horses will be on WUOG's (90.5's) "Live in the Lobby". They've played out so much lately, I've run outta things to say, but it's an apt name and the music's good.

For The Ladies...

Cute Overload. It's exactly what it says it is. I'd post a sample picture, but we've already surpassed our cute limit for the year.

The Current Culture War*

A classmate tipped me off to a blog she found in the tradition of Engrish, but basically its reverse: Hanzi Smatter - a blog dedicated to the misuse of Chinese characters in western culture. It's not quite as entertaining because the translations aren't as solid, but it's worth digging to find people who have had things like this tattooed.

In a related matter, check out this hilarious Asian menu [via Memepool]. Which actually reminds me of my own encounter with a funny Chinese menu item.

(* = Not to be confused with this current culture war. Seriously, even Out magazine isn't as obsessed with being gay. And are gay people even aware of this "war"?)

The Whigs in Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone has included the Whigs in their list of "10 Artists to Watch".

Tonight In Athens

The folks in Lake City are gonna have a helluva jog tonight. First, they play WUOG's (90.5's) "Live in the Lobby" at about 8PM and then they have to hustle it over to Tasty World to play again opening for the always great Centro-Matic. Wonderful line-up there.

R.I.P. Nikki Sudden

Thanks to Boo for the link to the unfortunate news of Nikki Sudden's death. He passed through here several times and even played AthFest last year with a TDJer or two. For those not familiar, here's his site.

UPDATE: The Reuters story is here. Ongoing commentary also on his MySpace page including this quote that someone posted:

"One of the great things about being a musician is knowing you don't have to retire. I have a friend that will retire in 10 years because he's 55. I'll never have to do that. I can play until the day I die. I can't think of a better way to spend your life. If you make yourself happy and you make other people happy. What's more important? Your soul. I can't think of anything better to do." -Nikki Sudden

Our best to his family and friends.

Rules Don't Apply to Parker Posey

That bitch gets to drink inside the Classic Center. Not in the drinker's jail or the lobby like we have to. What makes her so special?

Kids Render The ATF

Thanks to Hillary for the link to these hilarious kids pics of the ATF, strangely enough posted by the ATF (the one by Douglas, Age 7 definitely takes the cake).

Monday Morning Sound-Off

What'd y'all do this weekend? Drink a lot? Rock a lot? Did anyone else feel like the oldest person at the Of Montreal show? Anyone go to any of the films at the fest? Tell us what's up that good in the comments.

This Weekend In Athens

FRI: Of Montreal makes their way back into town from their extensive and quite successful U.S. tour to play the Watt. I don't know if it's sold out yet but if it isn't, it will, so get your tickets soon. Michael Lachowski (Pylon) will be DJing afterwards with his new photography subject, Atom. Also, there's Producto at the Caledonia.

Don't forget about the Robert Osborne Classic Film Festival. Today's films are: Ed Wood (1:30 PM), The Third Man (4:30 PM), and Breakfast At Tiffany's (8:30). The latter will feature a discussion with actors Patricia Neal and Mickey Rooney, so that's pretty cool.

SAT: Still Small Voice & The Joyful Noise perform at the Caledonia tonight along with Folklore. That's a pretty solid lineup and even though both are relatively young bands in this town, definitely the bill of the night. More here. There's also Sleepy Horses at Flicker and if you're in the mood to pick up drunk college kids, then you can't beat the Krush Girls at the 40 Watt.

At the ROCFF: Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1:30 PM), On The Waterfront (4:30 PM), and Best In Show (8:30 PM) - featuring a post-film discussion with special guest Parker Posey. Seriously.

SUN: The ROCFF winds down with a full afternoon's worth of Gone With The Wind, starting at 1:30 PM. There's a brunch beforehand with Robert Osbourne. Who doesn't want that?

Thursday, March 23, 2006

Robert Osbourne's Classic Film Festival

Tonight is also the opening of the 2006 Robert Osbourne Classic Film Festival over at the Classic Center. Tonight's film is Hitchcock's North By Northwest, which is cool in it's own right, but did y'all hear Parker Posey's gonna be in town this weekend (for the Best In Show screening)? Bigtime props and possibly prizes for anyone who sends us a picture of her in Athens. Full schedule of screenings here.

Tonight In Athens

Good bill at the 40 Watt tonight featuring Annie & Her Guns, Lake City, & Sleepy Horses. Those're three good bands that I'd imagine will go great together. Also, there's Dark Meat and Mother Jackson down at the Caledonia as well, for a louder experience.

120 Minutes Playlist Archive

Remember these guys?

While completely nerding out trying to make a mix of songs that were great singles in the 90's and don't really get play nowadays, I came across a nearly-complete archive of playlists from MTV's 120 Minutes. It's fun to just kinda scan back and see what was played when. And you can watch the show tank in the late 90's (starting a bit before '97, really). Fun for music nerds of all types.

Best Thing Ever

Wired has an article about how duct tape was left off Forbe's list of best tools in history. Anyway, it reminded me of GLFC's Best Thing Ever contest. Whatever came of that? What ended up being the best thing ever?

I couldn't find the winner on his site... if anyone knows, post it in the comments.

Tonight In Athens

Jonathan Byrd makes his way in town once again to perform at Farm 255. It's a rare treat and his shows are always good. Supposedly a completely solo performance tonight, though I'd be surprised if his Dromedary pals weren't around.

Also, someone'll probably whine if I don't mention Ted Leo + Pharmacists at the Watt tonight. So, yeah. More here.

Of Montreal At SXSW

Just a head's up, AMdC's got a clip of Of Montreal at SXSW.

South Park's Scientology Episode

If you have some time to kill at work today, you oughta watch the banned South Park episode about Scientology...

Yes, that's R. Kelly in the yellow suit...

John Neff Vs. The Flaming Lips

Should anyone have any doubts as to who was in the pictures that AMdC posted from Langerado, it's obviously our old pal John Neff on stage Neffin' It Up with the Flaming Lips. I bet he totally scored after that.

(And for old times' sake, because we can't get enough of it, here's the classic: "Nuthin' But Neff!" And thanks to David for the pic!)

Tonight In Athens

Former resident, and soon to be re-resident Madeline performs at the Caledonia, bringing sweet acoustic songs with just a bit of punk ethic with her. Her album, Kissing and Dancing has recently been re-released and is all shiny and new for those who don't already own it.

Also, does anyone know if the "Cameo" that's performing at the Georgia Theatre tonight is the same "Cameo" that sang "Word Up" in the 80's? Cause that would be awesome (though I have no idea why if they reformed that they'd be opening a quadruple bill at the Theatre).

Equinox Egg

Someone in my office did this with an egg today. The myth is that you can only do it on an equinox or solstice (something with the poles or whatnot). The truth is that you can do it at any time of the year. More people just try on those four days. Anyway, Happy Spring.

Monday Morning Sound-Off

Hey y'all, hope everyone had a great weekend (or for the students, a great break). Back to it, I s'pose. Anyone get their taxes done yet? Any great ways to cheat the IRS? Anyone do anything great or see anything great or eat anything great last week(end)? Let us know in the comments.

As an aside for all you music geeks out there, if you were going to make a mix of the best alt-rock singles from the 90's, what songs would you definitely include? Think more 120 Minutes than 99X here (Sugar, Belly, Pavement, etc.). I'd appreciate any recommendations.

This Weekend In Athens

Happy St. Patrick's Day, drunkards!

FRI: Bob Hay & The Jolly Beggars perform for the first time in a while at Go Bar. Sounds like a great place to see them play. I dig small venues and speaking of, Bloodkin performs a warm-up show of sorts at the Georgia Bar tonight as well.

Music Hates You is also playing two shows this weekend, the first at Tasty World. So, are they the house band for Caledonia or Tasty World at this point?

SAT: Bloodkin performs their larger show at The Georgia Theatre. They always manage to pull of good sound there (which is somewhat rare in that big room), so it's a nice place to catch their show if you never have.

Also, Garbage Island and Music Hates You both return to familiar stomping ground at the Caledonia.

SUN: The Georgia Guitar Quartet performs for the first time in a while at a venue listed in F'Pole as "OCAF". I'm too dumb to work out that abbreviation. Anyone wanna help?

Also, a very happy birthday to the greatest taper in all the land, Sloan Simpson. That guy seriously rocks. People should buy him things. Happy Birthday, Sloan!

Athens' Busy Bees

These news items just in...

The Drive-By Truckers announced their upcoming tourdates today. None in Georgia at the moment, but plenty of gigs with Son Volt in other towns. Widespread Panic just announced a theatre simulcast of one of their two Fox Theatre shows in May. A great way to solve the problem of those Fox tickets getting snatched up so quickly (ticket "vouchers" go on sale this Saturday). Their new album, Earth To America, recorded in the Bahamas with legendary producer Terry Manning, will be out in June. And finally, Pitchfork currently has a review of an Of Montreal show. That's it, for now.

Meth Of The Dial

Thanks to Karate Media for the following...

"Hey Folks

I don't know if this radio spot is airing across the nation, or just in the South, where the hillbillies love to make crystal meth in their singlewides. It took me three times hearing this on WSB radio before I believed it was real.

Regardless, there's just something about the exploitive fear-mongering in this ad that really cheers me up. Or maybe I'm just an evil person who laughs at the good deeds of progressive businesses. No, wait. I think it's the fear-mongering.

Find the ad and more info at: http://www.sineoff.com/news.html.

Enjoy!

Oh -- and happy birthday to Kevin! And Happy St. Patrick's Day and all that..."

ATH Represent!

Dear Athens Bands,

Good luck at SXSW. Try not to get accosted by record companies or guys with backwards hair. Write us when you can.

Sincerely,
TDJ

Tonight In Athens

Musician and occasional TDJ'er Aaron Jolly's gonna have a busy night tonight as Vicariously Through Cats, The Ginger Envelope and the 1800 piece band Dark Meat play the 40 Watt tonight. That's a great lineup. More latter here and here. (Sidenote: Has MySpace killed the art of the regularly-updated band website?)

Also, you can catch Iron Hero over at the Caledonia. I've said it before, but they're one of the tightest bands in Athens - I don't think I've ever seen them miss a note.

Weird News Stories

My morning web-surfing turned up two particularly strange stories today. The first is about beer accidentally coming out of someone's kitchen faucet (dear god, why couldn't it have been me?) and the other story is about a flying turkey that crashes through the window of a house while the couple is watching tv (that's just whacky).

In South Park News

Looks as though Chef (Isaac Hayes) has quit South Park over a spat on religion. It appears the show made fun of Scientology and he's a scientologist, so there you have it.

Who Needs Comments When...

There's a fancy new chat tool on the Web called Gabbly. It enables you to chat with others about any site on the 'net... simply type "http://gabbly.com/" in front of any URL to get started.

Chat about The Day Jobs (http://gabbly.com/http://www.thedayjobs.com)
Chat about Google (http://gabbly.com/http://www.google.com)
Chat about Lifehacker (http://gabbly.com/http://www.lifehacker.com)

The coolest part is that it doesn't require any software installations. You only need to have javascript enabled.

They've been getting alot of attention in the blogosphere since their launch this past weekend, so the tool can be a little slow at times. However, once they get the kinks worked out this could be a really fun little tool for killing time at work.

Petty, Vacant

Apparently, despite the reunion tour several years back, the Sex Pistols weren't too keen on being part of the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. According to the grammatically-disastrous note he wrote, John Lydon's still about fighting the system. But wouldn't it have been cooler to actually show up at the awards, have everyone expect you to do something "kinda out there", then do something so totally over the top that it freaks people out and maybe sends a few running? That woulda been punk rock to me.

Live in the Lobby Torrents

In yesterday's comments, Lars said something that sounds promising:

speaking of torrents, i'm now throwing my hat into the sharing game: WUOG "Live in the Lobby" performances. the first one up is Garbage Island (November 16, 2004).

Hopefully this means that WUOG will begin offering torrents for many more of their Live in the Lobby performances. Thanks Lars!

Athens Music

While it's not an Athens band, here is the bittorrent from a show in Athens just last week. Wilco at the Classic Center, with a big thanks to Sloan Simpson (and his kickass friends that have to watch the gear for him while he takes a leak).

Tonight In Athens

Canadianophiles get ready cause Metric'll be playing the 40 Watt tonight. Somehow, they're connected to Broken Social Scene, but I don't remember how. Maybe they share some of BSS's 455 members. Who knows? Anyway, they're pretty good and a rare appearance this far South. More here and here.

Monday Morning Sound-Off

It's Monday, and unless you're on Spring Break, then that probably means a sucky day back at the office. So, drop a line in the comments to kill some time and let us know what you dug lately. What's good, and what's to be avoided. Maybe it'll liven the week. And look out for blondes in bikinis doing keg-stands... they're everywhere this time of year.

Silver Jews Audio

Cable and Tweed has a quick review and audio from Friday's Silver Jews show at the 40 Watt. Sounds like it was fun. Wish I'd been in town... Any TDJers go? If so, how was it?

Friday, March 10, 2006

"I said diminished! Not minor! Drop the fifth, slut!"

Found a great blog today... Overheard in Athens.

Overheard in Athens is a collection of quotes, conversations, and anecdotes heard in and around Athens, GA

If you overhear something worth sharing, fill out their form and they'll put it up.

How to Download Music with BitTorrent

Sloan Simpson (a regular TDJ'er) has created a great guide to downloading music with BitTorrent. Sloan sez:

BT can be used to transfer any kind of files, software (likely its original intended purpose), movies, audio, or porn(!). For our purposes here, I'm going to stick to "lossless" audio of the legal and legitimate variety.

This guide will have a permanenet home in the "Links" tab. Thanks to Sloan Simpson for creating the document, and to Desktop Publisher for fancying it up.

History Of The Cubicle

Here's a recent CNN article about the regretful inventor of the cubicle and a bit about the history of what some consider the foulest of inventions (personally, I think it's better than an open bullpen for sure, cause you can slack sometimes at least, but that's just me).

This Weekend In Athens

Happy Spring Break!
(Or Happy "All The Students Are Gone" Time! - depending who you are.)

FRI: A couple of rare appearances by E6ers this weekend (isn't the entire camp a little inactive at the moment?) as The Gerbils and The Instruments take the non-stage at Little Kings. I guess this means folks are in town and ready to rock and fortunately, so am I.

Of course, there's also a good lineup over at Tasty World featuring Pushbutton, Murder Beach, and a too-rare appearance by The Savoir Faire. It's a pop-licious combo, that's for sure. Can't lose at either show, I'd imagine. More here.

Finally if you can't stand pop or you're just not in the mood, then there's the fine hardcore of Music Hates You over at the Caledonia. Plenty of screaming, an anti-authoritarian attitude and lots of volume. Fun.

Update from Computer Support: I usually don't get involved w/ This Weekend in Athens posts... because I don't normally know what's going on. However, as Hillary pointed out, the Silver Jews show has gotta be mentioned. I'm jealous.

SAT: Our friend Liz Durrett plays at the 40 Watt. She has an amazing voice and if you haven't heard her (and especially if you have), you'd do well to go get her new album, The Mezzanine. Think Cat Power but less whiney and more stable (which is most people, but the voice is what I'm getting at). It's amazing. More here.

If you like things more experimental, you can always catch Cinemechanica and Maserati over at the Caledonia or Eric Harris' new project, Diet Rock Star, at Flicker.

Weird In The News

Vet Pharmacist was kind enough to avoid studying and pass on some funny news. Someday, someone might die because of it, but for now there's weird stuff to enjoy...

Firstly, there's still some human quadrupeds out there (in Turkey, specifically). Of course, they're not the only new species recently discovered... Try some hairy lobster on for size (that sentence sounds unreasonably perv-y).

And finally, she leaves us with the heartwarming story of a man who decided to dispose of a loved one's remains the old-fashioned way: by feeding them to his pigs, telling everyone he was in a nursing home, and then stealing from his bank account. Ah, Germans.

(Bonus: Way, way, way more than you need to know about the Turkish handwalkers located in pdf form here, for those interested.)

Tonight In Athens

As if I had to say it, Wilco plays the Classic Center tonight at 8-ish. Most of you music nerds already knew that. I'm a nerd, so I did.

For alternative or after-show activities, there's always Heros Severum and Coulier at the Caledonia as well as The Ginger Envelope at the Lunch Paper (perfect for Wilco fans, if I do say so).

The Day Jobs dot Wha?

These guys must hate us... Hey, TDJ (the band), how's this dotcom look? Jealous?

Today In Celebrity Gossip

Yanni beat up his GF and Gyllenhaal is "funny ha-ha", not "funny queer".

Don't Eff With Natalie Portman

If any of y'all missed it over the weekend, the Natalie Portman's hardcore rap sequence from SNL is friggin' hilarious. Guess SNL's only great when it's rap-centric at this point. You'd think they'd want to get as much publicity as possible of their few highlights at this point. Sadly, not so.

Of Underage Overachievement, Drinking

Thanks to Hillary for sending a couple of fun links...

First, here's a great pic of Harry Potter's gf enjoying a taste of Mexico (no, Robo, it's not what you think).

And just when you've lost your faith in young talent, the Marimba Ponies will pick it back up.

New DBT

Another track from the upcoming Drive-By Truckers record has made its way onto cyberspace. Check out "Easy On Yourself".

'Course you can always keep up with this and all other DBT news at their site for A Blessing and A Curse or with our friends over at NineBullets.org.

Tonight In Athens

A new age dawns as members of Cinemechanica and Coulier once again take the stage at the Caledonia to battle it out in classic Nintendo fashion - this time as "Megaband". Basically, they'll be scoring the soundtrack to Mega Man as a couple of folks beat the game - right there in front of your eyes (unless the game messes up, which would suck). Anyway, Contraband was a blast so I'm sure Megaband will be as well.

Also, the illustrious Thunderchief will be playing their second show ever at Tasty World. Will in be perfectly in time or tune? Probably not. Will it rock? Most certainly. Punk rockers of all ages will be entertained.

The Remake

Brokeback Mountain with bunnies in 30 seconds.

1998 Was So Cute

From Wonkette

Tonight In Athens

The one-two hardcore combo of Brown Frown and Music Hates You happens again at Tasty World. Last time, BF's Andrew Prater let out a long rant against Gordon Lamb and his beard, both of whom were sitting in the back of the room. What will happen this time? Who knows. It's kinda like a GBV show (or what I hear a Replacements show was like) - you just hope for the "high octane" kinda nights.

As a sidenote, I recently got to hear a few songs from the upcoming Brown Frown LP (due out this fall-ish). Sounds amazing. If you don't have their debut EP, Romans, it's well worth the money.

Monday, March 06, 2006

Tonight In Athens

Folklore plays the 40 Watt, opening for The Casting Couch - which features a former Athenian or two. I've not heard either of the bands, but we know/like the folks in the former (and have heard great things) and figured some folks might care about the latter. There you have it.

Monday Morning Sound-Off

Hey y'all, let us know what was great about your past week. What was worth it, what wasn't, and generally what made life worth living. And does anyone actually care about Oscars? Drop a line in the comments.

This Bike Is Not Really a Pipe Bomb

This Bike is a Pipe Bomb got some free press this weekend when 4 buildings at Ohio University were shut down due to a TBIAPB sticker.

"The bomb squad pried apart the bike with a hydraulic device normally used to rescue accident victims trapped in cars... Once they had it open, they saw there was no bomb."

Perhaps this press will boost album sales for the boys. Maybe then they can afford to turn the water back on and start taking showers again.

Get Out The Marker

OK guys... Next time she falls asleep, get out the marker and start drawing on her.

Stapp...Rock...Strippers...Video...Gross!

CNN's got the rebuttal from Kid Rock regarding the tape that's sure not to sell starring him, former Creedian Scott Stapp, and some strippers. As usual though, Defamer's take is funnier.

(Note: This is the best Scott Stapp story since the Denny's prank.)

Pointless Friday Activities

The Age Gauge provides some interesting trivia.

Code writers, who sometimes seem to have way too much time on their hands, do manage to pull of the coolest internet time-wasters so we can all join in (this will only waste 30 seconds of your day unfortunately.) Make sure your volume is turned up.

And here's a funny article on one very bad boy. Doh!

Best of Decade?

As if there weren't already enough lists, Amazon has posted their favorite records of the decade so far. Two Athens' bands/artists that I could find at a quick glance.

This Weekend In Athens

Sorry y'all, ain't got time for links, but y'all know where to find 'em by now, I'm sure...

FRI: The Dromedary Quartet performs at the Melting Point. There's a movie screening too. See Flagpole for details. Also, there's Five-Eight playing at the Caledonia as part of Ken Will Morton's CD Release show. And acoustic punkstress Madeline is back in town and playing at Transmetropolitan of all places.

SAT: Hope For A Goldensummer and Iron Hero both play the 40 Watt as part of some benefit show. Also that evening Five Eight and Guff will be playing "Rock N' Relief 2" at North Oconee High School (outside - starts 9-ish) for Katrina relief. Daniel Rickard's new band Suny Lyons plays at the Go Bar while Chip McKenzie and Ian Morris perform at the Mercury Lounge. So, plenty going on for sure.

Cable and Tweed

I recently stumbled upon a great Georgia-centric music blog, Cable and Tweed. It's run by a guy from Decatur and is updated daily w/ MP3's, links, videos, etc. Might help you waste some time at work today.

AthFest CD

Well, Athensmusic.com has the scoop on the new AthFest CD - it's 2 discs again. Looks great.

Autistic Basketball Hero

For the few of you who haven't heard about this yet, here's the amazing story of an oft-benched kid with autism who finally got to shine at basketball.

Tonight In Athens

Tonight marks the debut of a new rock/punk-ish outfit called "Thunderchief" at the 40 Watt. I'm listing this for the benefit of the 4 or 5 people who read this blog who happen to know their illustrious bassist Adam Bruce (Inconsiderates, former Fairburn Royals). Those who know him know that this is bound to rock.
