Sweet Teeth CD

Lars just wrote us with news of a Sweet Teeth CD already ready to go...
Hi Day Jobs,

My label (Thor's Rubber Hammer -- also put out "Deeded to Itself: Athens Southernoise" and other stuff by Athens bands) has just released Sweet Teeth's debut album.

Here's the one-sheet-y language:

Sweet Teeth- From the Fourth Hand of the Buddha the Lotus Was Born for the Seventh Time CDR: Sweet Teeth combines both the sounds and members of Dark Meat and Long Legged Woman -- clusterpsych classic-rock tendencies paired with hypnotic avant-rock. From the Fourth Hand's lone track, "Morning Raga," is a tribal drum-heavy affair recorded live at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA by the capable hands and ears of Asa Leffer. The monochordal frame has the band expanding the third eye in the crosshairs of Spacemen 3, Acid Mothers Temple and Pharoah Sanders. Artwork by Ben Clack/Nick Canada and righteous llama photo by Page Campbell. Pro-printed CDRs in a resealable polybag.

Sounds and ordering here.

Thanks!

-Lars Gotrich (former WUOG, blah blah, now in DC)

Them boys and girls don't waste no time. Isn't there a new Dark Meat album (almost?) in the can too?

This Weekend In Athens

Another link-free weekend cause the man keeps coming down on me...

FRI: Down With The Woo, Ice Cream Socialists, Pegasuses-XL and New Orleans' One Man Machine all perform at the 40 Watt tonight. Down with the Woo's doing some sort of video/recording of the performance and Pegasuses is/are celebrating their third release, which is digital-only but I think it's free or something. Or you donate or whatever.

Also, for fans of great pop (and all ye E6ers), The 63 Crayons and The New Sound Of Numbers play a show together at the Go Bar. A big group of talented folks there.

And I just wanted to list this show because I haven't been able to in forever: The Normaltown Flyers are playing at (the new) Allen's (location). Yes, Allens is slinging burgers once again and the Flyers have a their home back. It is Athens, after all.

Finally, earlier on, Peter Erchick (also one of the aforementioned E6ers) and Heather Heyn (of Dark Meat) perform at Flicker around 8:30. Flagpole's not sure whether it's a joint show or if they're playing separately or what, and thus, I'm not sure either. However, should be a great show whichever way it goes.

SAT: Kind of a slow night around town. I know that Clay Leverett's playing a solo show over at the Melting Point. He's been playing more often lately... anyone caught a show to verify if there's new songs in there? He's a great songwriter, but prolific he's not. Hopefully some new stuff's kicking around.

Meanwhile, DJ Other Voices, Other Rooms will be spinning at Little Kings. He promises the likes of Steely Dan, Big Star, and Rod Stewart early on with lots of rap later in the night.

MON: Happy Labor Day!

Tonight In Athens

Producto and Lona perform at the Caledonia tonight. Producto's latest release, Producto 3 is out now - which you might not've known cause there wasn't a lot of hullabaloo when it was released (was there a release party show?). Anyway, it's there.

Before that though, there's a rarity of a show: Brent Best & Friends at Flicker around 8:30 PM. The former Slobberbone now Drams singer's gonna be playing with various folks from around town. Don't know who exactly, but probably Craig Lieske and/or Patterson Hood and/or Dave Marr and/or Todd McBride. Who knows? Should be a good show.

Finally, if you're in the mood to shake ass, DJ Mahogany's at Little Kings.

Tonight In Athens

Bloodkin plays for the first time in a while. The location? Yup, the Georgia Bar. Love it.

Garbage Island also plays tonight at the 40 Watt for a special show called "Every Man An Island"... which I think means everyone can come play with them. Sure to be noisy chaos. So, like a louder Garbage Island show (just kidding, y'all... but really, you can play with them, that part's real).

Also, a few of our favorite solo acts play today. Jay Gonzalez on the piano at Kingpins, and a it is indeed an Alvanos-Flavin kinda day - Peter playing at 7:30 this morning at Mama's Boy and Jesse playing at Little Kings tonight. Seriously, those two need to tour together and play every music venue in Athens over the course of like 3 weeks.

Free Singles On iTunes

In a very cool new practice which I hope continues, iTunes is offering free singles from both Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen right now. Also, some of their new release prices have dropped (see the new Springsteen, new Ringo, etc.). Hope they keep it up.

Oh, and for fans of the Boss, here's links to all three parts of Ickmusic's posting of Springsteen Live at the Roxy, 1978.

Tonight In Athens

Big free show tonight at the Watt featuring Summer Hymns, Ham 1, Folklore, The Lickity-Splits and others, not necessarily in that order. Good night to get out there and check good stuff. Check it, yo.

Other good stuff: Cars Can Be Blue at the Caledonia or Timber at Repent.

This Weekend In Athens

School's already killing me. No time links...

FRI: Jucifer returns once again to their technical "home" in Athens to play at the Georgia Theatre. Really, if you haven't seen 'em, you need to. It's like the circus coming to town. The Rock circus. And We Versus The Shark and Summerbirds In The Cellar are opening. An awesome night for rock.

For something much quieter, you can see Parker "P.L." Noon, Matt "Pistol" Stoessel and Patrick "Ginger Envelope" Carey at Flicker all performing acoustic sets.

If you wanna dance, DJ's Gretchen & Kurt Wood will be spinning at the Go Bar.

But before all that, you can stop by the Caledonia at Happy Hour (around 6 PM) to see Jesse Flavin (if he's still alive) and Venice Is Sinking. It's only $3, which is like half-price around here.

SAT: Patterson Hood plays his first solo show in while at the Melting Point. He's likely gonna play stuff from his third solo album. He's got a habit of getting like 2-3 albums ahead of himself. The talented, gigantic Bo Bedingfield opens.

In what kinda seems an odd pairing Push! and Peter Alvanos are listed as playing at the Caledonia - though I can't verify that Alvanos is gonna be there through the club's site. He probably is though. That guy's everywhere.

Also, the Folk Yous bring the soft sounds of 80's hard rock to the Go Bar. Or, if you just wanna dance, you can either catch Bitch Switch at Little Kings and/or DJ Mahogany at Flicker.

UPDATE: Alvanos will actually be playing at the Go Bar along with the Folk Yous. That show starts around 8PM.

SUN: In what may likely be the second-most-awesome show that Kingpins will have ever hosted (third maybe if you count the awesome Jay Gonzalez shows!) Centro-Matic and Southern Bitch will both perform this Sunday. I don't know where everyone's gonna stand, or if anyone will be able to hear anything afterwards, but oh what a lineup. That is how you bring it.

And yes, I used that picture so that we all remember what it's like to be cold.

Tonight In Athens

Something for most tastes tonight. First off, at the Caledonia, Americana-ish fans can check out Bo Bedingfield & The Wydelles and Adam Klein, two of the best acts of that genre around here in the last few years.

Or, for more of a mixed bag, you can check out the second show by the H.E.A.P. Project, with Madeline, and Still, Small Voice & The Joyful Noise, all at the 40 Watt.

Similarly varied (yeah, I said it) would be the show at Little Kings featuring the seldom-playing Honey and the ESG cover band Tiny Sticks (who haven't played in years). All part of Aaron Wegelin's going away party there.

But before all that, the ever-present Jesse Flavin will play on WUOG's "Live In The Lobby" at around 8 PM. Your move, Alvanos! More here.

Tonight In Athens

Jay Gonzalez is back at it again this week at Kingpins, playing the hits in the piano bar for all to enjoy. Tip 'em well... and he'll play your tune. Hell, he might even have guest singers. Who knows? Always a fun show. Starts around 8 PM-ish usually.

Also, Jesse Flavin and Timber both perform shows at Little Kings. And Sleepy Horses plays at the 40 Watt.

Tonight In Athens

Magic Missile plays their first show in a while over at the Caledonia tonight. I have absolutely no idea what they've been up to as a band. But they're back tonight, so maybe someone could ask 'em.

Also, as mentioned yesterday, the 40 Watt's doing a free screening of the new DVD of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" Chapters 13-22. There's experimental music before and after.

Speaking Of Previews...

Let's all take some time to get psyched for Trapped In The Closet, Chapters 13-22 (which you can see for free at the 40 Watt tomorrow night). Preview/summary is here (and definitely NSFW):

After all, this might very well be the last we get for a while if he ends up in jail soon.

New WVTS Ad / Hall & Oates Update

The folks in We Versus The Shark made an ad for their new EP/DVD. I thought it was pretty funny. A little Pythonesque. Be patient - the action happens:

Also - remember the Hall & Oates-meeting contest Sam Shark entered? Here's the update (asterisks ours):
okay. somebody at hallandoates.com F***ED UP and posted the winners (US!!) too early and omitted the second voting round. not only were we not aware of this "second voting round" no one at the website contacted us, WE had to contact THEM and only then one lady responded with "contact someone else". B***S***!

so. up on the website now there are the top three videos, us included (video #3 now, WTF!), and you have until wednesday night to vote. THEN the winner will be determined (US!!) and will go to hollywood and complain to Hall and Oates personally about how s***ty their website people have been.

so please PLEASE go vote again and let us get the satisfaction of winning a second time.

www.hallandoates.com
www.hallandoates.com/vcontest.php

thanks!
-sam shark
So anyways, go vote and help 'em out and then maybe we'll get some hilarious YouTube footage out of it someday soon. Oh, and I can personally testify that the EP is awesome.

This Weekend In Athens

FRI: Athens 441 Week carries on at the Morton with tonight's show featuring Birds & Wire, our pal Kimberly Morgan, and more. They do a pretty good job of finding more radio-friendly local acts with you know... "cred". Anyway, I usually like their choices. More here.

Anyone know who Peter Alvanos is? Yeah, busy dude. Anyway, he's at the Caledonia tonight. The Flagpole lists it as a solo show, while the Caledonia says it's a Fabulous Bird show, so who knows? There's also a discrepancy over where Folklore will be - with the F'pole calling it for Little Kings and the Caledonia saying they'll be there. Who knows where they'll turn up.

Supposedly, though, you can see Timber at Little Kings and Lake City at Farm 255. Later on, if you wanna dance it off, there's Bitch Switch at Little Kings, DJ Mahogany at the Go Bar or the Krush Girls at the 40 Watt.

SAT: The last of the Athens 441 Week shows happens this time with Dancer Vs. Politician, hard-tourin' Jesse Flavin, and others. Again, more here. And these shows'll all be on the radio someday.

Seriously, Fabulous Bird is back at it again! Tonight, they're part of the Kindercore Relaunch Party at the Caledonia. It was mentioned 'round here a while back that they re-launched. And that they're now an all-digital label. The re-launch show also features King of Prussia, "The Masters" (a group sing-along in tribute to the now-defunct Masters Of The Hemisphere - Ian, is this right?), and others. Good to see 'em back. More here and here.

If none of that's your bag, the math hard-rockers in Cinemechanica bring the pain at the 40 Watt.

SUN: Nana Grizol is another repeat-performer this week, this night at the Secret Squirrel.

Tonight In Athens

Athens 441 Week continues at the Morton. Tonight's show features M Coast, Timber, and Kenosha Kid - which I'm quite sure is the first time that lineup's been seen together and will likely be the last time. But gotta love a town with music that diverse all in one place. And speaking of Kenosha Kid, Sloan recently posted their all-Athens-covers show from last year over at Southern Shelter.

Elsewhere, the Dictatortots are laughin' it up at Tasty World and Long-Legged Woman is experimenting musically at the Caledonia.

Update On Beatles Remasters

For all y'all that got your iTunes notice yesterday that John Lennon's catalog is now available and might be wondering, "Whatever happened to the Beatles catalog being remastered and issued on iTunes?"(that, this post is for nerds), the good news is that the remasters are done. Bad news is that artwork and distribution isn't settled and it might not be till 2008 - all according to Olivia Harrison.

To my way of thinking, they oughta hurry up, because no one's gonna buy me the boxed set if it's not Christmas. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that boat.

Tonight In Athens

It's a school night again!...

Athens 441 week continues at the Morton Theatre. Tonight's show features fresh-off-bbq'ing band Nutria as well as just-played-last-night band Nana Grizol and a few others. On that note, Jay Gonzalez of course won't be at Kingpins as he is most every Wednesday because he can't be two places at once. However, Joe Guerzo (Vinyl Strangers, former Flood City Shootout) will be performing there instead.

Also, there's a big show at the 40 Watt tonight. The second annual "Gimme Shelter Benefit" takes place to raise money for the Athens Area Homeless Shelter. Tonight, musicians will all be covering Neil Young songs. The lineup includes Jackpot City, William Tonks, Kimberly Morgan, Mother Jackson, John Neff, Bo Bedingfield, Jack Logan, Dave Marr, Clay Leverett, Mike Mantione and more to be announced. Should be a great show. All starts at 8:30 PM.

Finally, earlier on, Paul Lombard's bluegrass act Trunkfire will be performing at Arbor Salon & Spa at 6:30 PM. Odd, huh?

Tonight In Athens

Fabulous Bird lead tonight's lineup of Athens 441 at the Morton Theatre. They're actually doing several of those shows this week. And if you don't get your fix then, you can swing by Mama's Boy tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM to see Peter Alvanos do his weekly breakfast gig (those might be winding down now - not sure).

Also, you can catch Nana Grizol at Detour or David Blackmon and Friends at the Melting Point.

UPDATE:
No Alvanos tomorrow morning. So, if you wanted some psychedelia with your breakfast, you're SOL tomorrow.

Tonight In Athens

Sweet Teeth - the new band comprised of members of Dark Meat and Long-Legged Woman - performs at the Caledonia tonight. Also there will be Jesse Flavin who was just there like a few hours ago and will now be back for anyone who missed their Flavin fix over Sunday - only this time he'll be performing his own songs. Here's what he says about it:

August 13th will kick off my Head Games II tour around a small periphery of land in Athens, GA. This show at the Caledonia will mark the debut of full-band versions of my songs and will also feature the supreme talents of Cara Beth Satalino and Sweet Teeth.

The band:

Jeremy Wheatley (Tin Cup Phrophette, Low Lows)
Ken Henslee (Hi Fi Mastadon, The Glen Gould, Nazareth)
Kris Barratt (The Capes, Spring Tigers, cool accent)
Amanda Kapousouz (Tin Cup Phrophette)

After that I'll be playing a ridiculous amount of shows both solo & w/band for the next week or so. Check out the upcoming shows section on my page for all the details.

Remember: we've been given a gift and we're all (well, most of us.....) in this together!

Goofing Off At Work

I just had to post this graphic that our friend Jenn Bryant did for tonight's show at the Caledonia. Good work Jenn! And while I'm here, I might as well post this link to a free download of a track from the new Betty LaVette album, Scene of the the Crime, with Athens' Drive-By Truckers as her backing band.

In more absurd news, I guess this lady really didn't like Coldplay huh?

This Weekend In Athens

It's just regular looking dudes and chicks playing pop music...

FRI: Nutria's first - possibly annual? - Summer BBQ takes place tonight at the Caledonia. Around 6, you can stop by for lotsa good grub. I can tell you personally that if Dave Weiglein is involved, the food is going to taste good. Plus, there's rock starting at 9 PM. Here's what they say:
The grill is going to fire up around 5:30 and food is gonna be ready around 6pm. The Caledonia bar will be open and offering Happy Hour drink Specials. There is no cover charge before 10 pm, so you can't lose!. From 6pm to 9pm there will be unplugged performances from Nutria and Friends, as well as the other 3 bands on the bill. At 9, the ROCK starts!!!

First up on the rock lineup are The Wagoneers from Charleston SC. Next, is Pistolero hailing from Atlanta GA, Thirdly, we have Athens music veterans Bo Bedingfield & The Wydelles, featuring everybody's favorite musician, Neff. Last, Nutria brings it, just coming off a Summer Tour, and ready to eat, play, hang out with friends and, of course, sweat.

Hope to see ya there, and if yer not there, I don't wanna hear you complain about shows in Athens being soOOOO LATE!!!
But of course, that's far from all the options tonight. The newly-reopened Flicker will, for real this time, feature a show by Don Chambers and several "conspirators" - starting around good 'ol Flicker time of 8:30. Or there's Sweet Tooth Simpleton & The Simpletones playing their own brand of dirty bluegrass over at Little Kings as well.

And for extremely varied taste, there's Deaf Judges and Elite The Showstoppa over at Nuci's Space as part of some rap meets metal night. Actually, some of that show sounds like it would be absolutely horrible, but there are those two acts - both of which are worth seeing.

Also, for the first time in a while, The Low Lows perform around these parts. They've been gallivanting all around Europe and who knows where else and making albums and videos and whatnot, but they're around tonight. 8-Track Gorilla's there too. All goes down at the Go Bar. Oh, and it's Lily's (of "Parker & Lily" fame) going away party too. She's moving (back to?) New York.

Finally, of course, PopFest kicks into high gear, but you already knew that, so I saved it for last. Here's the lineup:
LITTLE KINGS
Laminated Cat (2 p.m.)
Poison Control Center (2:45 p.m.)
Pipes You See, Pipes You Don’t (3:30 p.m.)
The Marbles (4:15 p.m.)

40 WATT CLUB
Ideal Free Distribution (8 p.m.)
Ryan Anderson (8:30 p.m.)
High Water Marks (9:10 p.m.)
The American Revolution (9:45 p.m.)
The Postmarks (10:30 p.m.)
Tullycraft (11:15 p.m.)
Casper & the Cookies (12:10 p.m.)
Circulatory System (1 a.m.)
Lotsa choices on this Friday night.

SAT: By far two of the finest cover bands around, Heavy Petty and the Folk Yous perform at the Caledonia tonight. If you have an affinity of any sort for 80's rock, you should not miss this show. Heavy Petty alone has converted lotsa folks to Petty enthusiasts (everyone going, "Man, I didn't know I knew that many words to Tom Petty songs"), and the Folk Yous are the reason that there's a song by Asia on my iPod... which actually sounds sad. But they're good. Oh, and it's a celebration for Mark & Christina (Opel) and their new married life. But everyone's invited. Doors at 6. Show at 11.

There's also Mikey Dwyer & The Starter Kits and Still, Small Voice & The Joyful Noise at the Melting Point. And later that night, Bitch Switch will be spinning at Detour.

Last but certainly not least is the final night of PopFest. A tremendous undertaking every year - this year's lineup being pretty stellar for pop fans. Here's the schedule:
LITTLE KINGS
Black Kids (2 p.m.)
Jerk Alert (2:45 p.m.)
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (3:30 p.m.)
Red Pony Clock (4:15 p.m.)

40 WATT CLUB
Red Pony Clock (8 p.m.)
Baby Calendar (8:40 p.m.)
Fishboy (9:20 p.m.)
Bunnygrunt (10 p.m.)
Cars Can Be Blue (10:40 p.m.)
Dark Meat (11:10 p.m.)
Elekibass (11:50 p.m.)
Daniel Johnston (12:40 a.m.)
There's also an after-party at The Secret Squirrel with DJ Mahoghany.

SUN: Okay, so maybe Popfest really isn't all-the-way over because The Secret Squirrel hosts its own version of the festival (unofficial, of course) with Folklore, Ham 1, Telenovela, The Lickity Splits, Quiet Hooves, and Mouser starting at 8PM. If you can't get enough pop, this is the place to be. I can't re-print the name of their fest or poster because it's totally NSFW, but sounds like a good lineup.

Tonight In Athens

Popfest continues tonight splitting time between Little Kings (in the afternoon) and the 40 Watt (at night) - with a short dinner break in between. If you want lotsa pop, this is of course the place to get it. Much more here and here and here. Tonight's lineup is as follows (all links here):
LITTLE KINGS
Quiet Hooves (2 p.m.)
Oh Sanders (2:45 p.m.)
Violet Vector & the Lovely Lovelies (3:30 p.m.)
Darren Hanlon (4:15 p.m.)

40 WATT CLUB
Patience Please (8 p.m.)
How I Became the Bomb (8:40 p.m.)
The Smittens (9:20 p.m.)
The Velcro Stars (10 p.m.)
We Versus the Shark (10:50 p.m.)
Birds of Avalon (11:20 p.m.)
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists (12 a.m.)
If none of that sounds like your thing, Flagpole's saying that the newly-reopened Flicker will be hosting its first show back with Don Chambers tonight around 8:30 PM. Also, Sleepy Horses will be at Tasty World.

UPDATE: No Flicker show tonight... supposedly moved to tomorrow night.

Tonight In Athens

Man, I leave y'all alone for a few days and everyone's bitchin' about food. Scared for this place if I ever call it a day... (Thanks to DP for coverin' while I was gone!)

Anyway, tonight's the first night (if you don't count last night's free "preview" show) of the now-annual Popfest the good folks at Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records put on. It lasts through the weekend and will bring a crowd of skinny kids in special t-shirts from all over the country. But good music too. Flagpole's got plenty o' coverage here. Here's the lineup for this afternoon/tonight which is all at Little Kings (links should be available through the sites linked to above):
Paper Tanks (2 p.m.)
Hat Company (2:40 p.m.)
Christopher's Liver (3:20 p.m.)
Yellow Fever (4:40 p.m.)
- intermission -
Titans of Filth (7:30 p.m.)
Turncoats (8:10 p.m.)
Ninety Nine (8:50 p.m.)
Mouser (9:30 p.m.)
Venice is Sinking (10:10 p.m.)
Russian Spy Camera (10:50 p.m.)
M Coast (11:30 p.m.)
The Instruments (12:10 a.m.)
New Sound of Numbers (12:50 a.m.)
If that's not your thing and/or you're old like me, then you can catch our friend Jay Gonzalez over at Kingpins performing piano bar style covers from 8 till 11 PM. Good food, good tunes.

There's also The Help over at Tasty World celebrating the loss of one of their members to law school. With them will be Clay Leverett and Rob Veal & The Heavy Downpour. Not sure who's in Rob's backing band (used to just be the Cooler Heads re-arranged, but we'll see) - but he's a great songwriter.

Monday Morning Soundoff

I almost forgot. Tell us about your weekends. You know the drill.

Local Music News

Those who are curious to hear some of the new tracks from Vic Chesnutt's upcoming release, North Star Deserter, which is due out September 11, can get an advanced listen of the tracks on myspace. Sounds great! (Note that this album will also be available in double 180g LP.)

Tonight in Athens

Chip McKenzie (Still, Small Voice and the Joyful Noise) is celebrating the release of his solo album, Car Crash on Yr Couch, tonight at the Tasty World. Jim Wilson (Mother Jackson, Goat, Echo Canyon) will also perform there tonight as his solo outfit Diego Catalan. If you are in the mood to hear Abbey Road covers, you can head over to the Ashford Manor for an early show. And though I'm not familiar with the bands, looks like there's some bluegrass and old timey string music over at Little Kings.

Finally, a big happy birthday shout-out to TDJ friend and bass player extraordinaire Jon Mills.

This Weekend In Athens

FRI: Tonight the 40 Watt hosts Rudy Ray Moore (aka "Dolemite") capitalizing on his 70's cult fame with a mix of comedy and rap. Local rap act Deaf Judges open the show. Should at least be entertaining.

If that's not your scene, The Owen 4 play their second last show (note: not second TO last) at the Caledonia tonight as part of Chris Uhde's going away party. I've known Chris for a long time. Good guy. Good luck in L.A. Chris!

And last but not least, our pal DJ Other Voices, Other Rooms will be spinning at Little Kings. An eclectic mix promised for tonight - no theme or genre is set. Go shake some ass.

SAT: In what continually seems like a case of deja vu, the Dumps and Music Hates You play together at Tasty World. If you miss this performance, surely this'll happen again in a week or two. Actually, they're two of the better heavy acts in town, so worth a visit. And if it ain't broke...

For more of the heavy plus a little funny thrown in, the Dictatortots'll be playing at the 40 Watt, or for something softer, Tin Cup Prophette performs at the Caledonia.

The 40 Watt's having another loud-music-oriented free show tonight (like they did last Thursday). Tonight's lineup features Pegasuses-XL, Sweet Teeth, and possibly new buzz-band Pride Parade (provided all their members are out of jail - seriously), amongst others. Should be awesome.

Also of interest: Adam Klein at Tasty World and The Jerry Joseph Band at the Melting Point.

Random Discussion Topic: College

So, here we are on the verge of another school year for students and I come to realize that I know a lot about some of y'all - including that there are a lot talented folks who comment here (musical and otherwise), but I don't know anything about anyone's educational pursuits.

With that in mind, if anyone interested in solving my curiosity, just wondering what everyone's majors were/are and what degree you got or are getting or gave up on or hope to pursue soon or if you never gave a damn about college. I think it'd be interesting to find that out. I'd like to stress that this isn't a pissing contest. Just wanna know is all.

Chicago's Pelican performs for the very first time in Athens tonight at the 40 Watt. With them are Clouds and Fatal Flying Guillotines. It's a Chunklet-o-riffic show here in mid-week.

Also, our friend (and yours) Jay Gonzalez continues his stint at Kingpins Bowling Alley tonight as well. He performs covers, originals, and many requests if tipped well. Good guy, really.
